About Sci-Tech

Our Mission

"The Sci-Tech Discovery Center provides dynamic educational experiences that inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to embrace discovery and innovation through the active exploration of science, math and technology."

Bright ideas! That’s what Sci-Tech Discovery Center hopes to inspire by providing hands-on discovery experiences in the essential areas of science, math and technology to kids of all ages and backgrounds. Sci-Tech Discovery Center seeks to spark a life-long interest and help equip our area’s children with these advanced skills. At Sci-Tech we believe in advancing education and providing inspiration to the next generation of engineers, scientists, educators and innovators.

Our History
Responding to community demand for a cultural and educational destination, Sci-Tech Discovery Center, Inc. was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, educational organization in 2004 after the concept was studied and the vision shared with the community as a multi-year initiative of the Junior League of Plano.

To validate the plan to establish, build and endow a permanent, high-quality science and technology museum in Collin County, Sci-Tech hosted preview exhibits in the summers of 2004 and 2005 to demonstrate that the residents of our area would embrace such a facility. Over 25,000 voted "yes" with their feet. Since then Sci-Tech has delivered numerous outreach programs in preparation for establishing a permanent home in Collin County.

In October of 2009, the doors of Sci-Tech Discovery Center opened in our new Frisco location with the travelling exhibit Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body. More than 16,000 individuals from across North Texas came to explore during our soft opening. After our amazing success, we closed our doors for renovations, adding new walls, facilities and lights.

In October of 2010, we reopened with the Math Midway exhibit and have been active ever since with Animation (January-May 2011) and trains (May 2011).  We are currently hosting the "Playing with Time" exhibit, which explores timescales ranging from a fraction of a second to billions of years.  We have been proud to host science camps during the winter holidays, spring break, and summer along with other themed events throughout the year.  As we continue to grow, we hope to continuously hold true to our roots: advancing education and providing inspiration to the next generation of engineers, scientists, educators and innovators.
