SCI-TECH DISCOVERY CENTER RECIPIENT OF DSVP GRANT
Sci-Tech Discovery Center, Collin County’s only interactive, hands-on educational destination, has received a most welcome holiday gift. The organization has been chosen as the recipient of the 2012 Dallas Social Venture Partners (DSVP) philanthropic contribution. The multi-year contribution will provide a cash investment as well as professional expertise for the next three years.
“This exciting investment affirms and validates the hard work that our Board and volunteers have contributed to sustain Sci-Tech Discovery Center,” said Erica Yaeger, Executive Director. “There is a nationally recognized need to motivate youth to explore the wonders of science and technology and the grant from DSVP will assist in accomplishing this goal,” she added.
Stacy Caldwell, president of DSVP, said, “Dallas Social Venture Partners is thrilled to expand our philanthropic efforts to an important mission that is advancing S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in North Texas. Our Partners are excited to bring their energy and talent to help this organization grow and strengthen their mission.”
The DSVP grant will be used to expand Sci-Tech Discovery Center’s iScience Program, which provides discovery experiences to Title 1 schools throughout Collin County. It will also be used to support two upcoming traveling exhibits, Team Up! (The Science of Sports) and Amusement Park Science, both on display at the Discovery Center from January 28 - September 3, 2012. Additionally, over the course of the next three years, partners will engage with Sci-Tech Discovery Center to strengthen its marketing, fundraising and board development efforts.
Dallas Social Venture Partners is a membership organization of professionals, social entrepreneurs and funders who are committed to strengthening our community. DSVP Partners leverage contributions of expertise and resources in order to build the capacity and sustainability of child- and education-focused programs through high-level strategic planning, technology, development and other governance consulting. Over the course of the relationship, DSVP’s nonprofits see an average increase of 350% in the number of clients served, a clear demonstration of DSVP’s catalyzing effect for good.
