The Need For Math, Science and Technology Learning

The case is clear. In the U.S., our children’s deficiencies in the areas of science, math and technology have been described as a national crisis. One half of our nation’s children dislike science by the third grade, and 80 percent of students have turned away from science completely by the eighth grade. U.S. high school science aptitude scores are among the lowest in the world. And, America’s middle and high school students consistently under-perform in science and math compared to other developed countries.

The Sci-Tech Discovery Center is aimed at helping reverse that trend. By presenting math, science and technology in a fun, challenging and interesting way, we hope to spark an increased interest in these areas among all those who experience our exhibits and programs.

The Collin County area, which includes cities such as Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney and parts of Richardson and North Dallas, is one of the fastest growing areas of the country and a hub of technology businesses and corporate headquarters that require an educated workforce. With substantial growth in Collin County expected to continue, educational venues such as the Sci-Tech Discovery Center will define the community’s commitment to quality of life, and allow it to support young minds that will ultimately help sustain the vitality and progressiveness of area businesses.
